Expectant parents feel anxious for the new family member as they have no experience of caring newborn. To learn more about newborn caring or consult experienced healthcare can help parents to feel relieved.
Feeding:
Baby swallows air in the stomach when crying or sucking hastily. Milk in the stomach may spit up with the air from the stomach after feeding. Mothers should increase the frequency of burping and hold baby upright or elevate the head of the mattress after burping. Mothers avoid feeding the baby when he/she is too hungry or overfeeding him/her. When baby is hiccupping, breastfeeding for a longer while or feeding with some water and burping may help.
Excretion:
Formula-fed babies usually pass soft green, yellow or greenish yellow stool more regularly and in larger amount than breastfed babies. Breastfed babies pass loose yellow stool more frequently than formula-fed babies. As they get older, they may pass stool in alternate day or once every few days. It is normal as long as the stool is soft and wet.
Nappy Rash
Clean the buttocks with soft cloth soaked in warm water every time when you change the nappy. Apply a thin layer of Vaseline to help prevent nappy rash. Expose the buttocks in air for 10-15mins before wrapping the nappy can help the skin heal. If condition becomes severe, please consult doctor for examination.
